St. Francis Meditation Fifteen: Dominic and Francis

I am blogging a daily meditation for the participants (and others!)
of my class on St. Francis…

St. Dominic was an insider in the church.  St. Francis was a perpetual outsider.  Dominic’s call was to protect the church from heresy through theological education.  He saw poverty as a tool that could take away distractions from achieving his goal.  St. Francis’s call was to focus the church on following Christ.  He saw sacrificial living as the point of the Christian life.

Are you an insider or an outsider when it comes to the church?  What is more important to you – Right belief? Serving Others? Following a set of rules? Or something else? Ask Jesus to show you what is important to him.

April describes herself as a Red Letter Christian who writes about scripture and spiritual disciplines. See her latest book, James in the Suburbs: The Disorderly Parable of the Epistle of James. Great for an individual read or group Bible studies! You can follow her blog by clicking on the three dots in upper right hand of this page and scrolling down.
