St. Francis Meditation Two: “Fix My Church”

I am blogging a daily meditation for the participants (and others!)
of my class on St. Francis…

Meditation Two:

When Jesus spoke to St. Francis from the cross in the San Damiano Church, he said:

“Fix My Church.”

San Damiano Church, Assisi Italy

While Jesus may not speak in such a dramatic way to all of us, Jesus does want to speak into our hearts.  Ask Jesus what the directive is for your life.  Then just listen.  What directive has Jesus given you?

Francis heard the command to “Fix my church,” but it would be years before he really understood that it meant far more than fixing physical buildings.  We may not understand the whole scope of work that God has planned for us immediately, so how can we stay open to learning?

April describes herself as a Red Letter Christian who writes about scripture and spiritual disciplines. See her latest book, James in the Suburbs: The Disorderly Parable of the Epistle of James. Great for an individual read or group Bible studies! You can follow her blog by clicking on the three dots in upper right hand of this page and scrolling down.
